Before Your Course
Your EverydayClimbing mountain guide will be in touch one to two days before your course commences. This pre-course contact serves to introduce your guide, confirm meeting details, and provide insight into the expected weather conditions. Our guides are readily available to address any queries you may have, ensuring you're well-prepared for your upcoming adventure.
On the Day
Our journey kicks off with a leisurely and picturesque hike towards the famed slopes of the Buachaille. As we venture past the Lagangarbh Hut, we'll follow a recently improved trail, the mountain ascending steeply beside us. The path remains relatively straightforward as we traverse under numerous ridges and buttresses, eventually reaching a well-known feature called Waterslide Slab. It's at this point that our route becomes discernible, nestled amongst the surrounding ridges, gullies, and the towering presence of Rannoch Wall.
From the slab, we'll shift our trajectory upward, ascending engaging scrambles over intriguing slabs and steps, most of which are optional but become progressively more frequent and steeper as we ascend. We'll eventually reach a broad ledge beneath considerably steeper rock. Here, the use of harnesses and ropes becomes essential for safety. But no need to worry, your guide will expertly equip you and provide instructions on their use in the mountain environment.
Pressing on, we'll navigate the broad ridge terrain, sometimes tackling sections head-on and other times opting for flanking routes. Generous ledges and sections of easier terrain are interspersed between the more challenging section, offering welcome opportunities to catch your breath and capture some memorable photos. While a few segments are exposed or demanding, it's a rarity for both traits to coincide. Throughout the ascent, your guide will remain at your side to coach, instruct, and ensure your safety all the while.
A particular section features a brief climbing pitch with demanding moves, within reach for determined hillwalkers and novices, but certainly fascinating and enjoyable. Take note, the segment you're climbing is part of a route that plays a significant role in a renowned mountain race!
More scrambling and exposed movement await us as we climb higher, with the Rannoch Moor unveiling itself below, and the Mamore mountains appearing beyond the peaks of the opposite hills.
Eventually, Curved Ridge merges with the steeper and more challenging Crowberry Ridge. These two ridges unite and approach the summit together. However, before reaching it, we'll embark on a brief detour and indulge in some fun traversing to reach a subsidiary peak: Crowberry Tower. This isolated mini-summit is somewhat detached from the mountain and offers the perfect vantage point to reflect on your accomplishments so far.
Only a short stretch of scrambling and easy ledge systems separate us from the ultimate summit. Once atop, there's ample time for additional photographs and well-deserved congratulations. At this point, we may choose to traverse the mountain and reach another summit, descend via the walker's path in Coire na Tulaich, or perhaps even retrace our ascent route. As always, the deciding factors will be time, energy, and the allure of the Kingshouse Bar.
